Our Story: Built on Family, Driven by Service

Celebrating over 40 years in business is a proud milestone—but the In-Line story begins well before 1985.

Our roots trace back to the late 1950s, when our grandfather, John Dorans, founded Dorans’ Troop, a sheet metal fabrication and welding shop. In the mid-1970s, our father, John Dorans Jr., continued the family tradition by launching In-Line Metal Fabricators. The name “In-Line” came to him in a dream, along with the phrase: “keeping your costs and comfort In-Line.” That vision became the foundation of our brand.

During this time, our current president, Robert Dorans, began his journey in the trades as an HVAC service technician. After attending Carrier’s training academy in Syracuse, NY, he joined Local 274 as an HVAC apprentice—laying the groundwork for what would become a lifelong commitment to the industry.

As modern buildings became increasingly reliant on complex HVAC systems—boilers, chillers, and more—we recognized the growing need for expert service and maintenance. By the early 1980s, we were drafting our first HVAC maintenance plans.

On May 7, 1985, In-Line Air Conditioning Co., Inc. was officially formed, with our mother, Dorothy Dorans, serving as its first president. By the mid-1990s, both John and Dorothy had retired, passing the torch to the next generation: brothers Robert and Matt Dorans, and their sister Dorothy Gutierrez.

A defining moment came on September 10, 2001, when we celebrated the grand opening of our new warehouse and offices at 85 E 21st Street in Bayonne, NJ. The very next day, our community—and our country—was forever changed. That moment remains etched in our hearts, reminding us of the resilience and unity that define who we are.

Today, we continue to honor the legacy of our grandfather and father. Their dedication laid the foundation for our growth, and their values continue to guide every project we undertake.
